Internet Security 2010 - Virus
If you get a message on your computer screen saying that “Worm.Win32.NetSky” was detected on your computer, you
have a very dangerous virus. Either contact me immediately, or use the instructions
below to protect yourself.
Whatever you do, do NOT click on the link it offers you.
How to deal with the virus:
- Print off these instructions, as the rest of the process involves switching off your computer. To do this,
click on the 'File' option on the top left of your screen, and choose 'Print' from the drop-down menu.
- Turn off your computer by holding the power button down for 10-20 seconds until the computer switches
off.
- Turn on your computer and keep pressing the F8 key over and over until you are presented with a menu on the
screen that gives you a number of start up options. Select "Safe Mode With Networking".
- Log in, and open your normal web browser - i.e. Firefox or Internet Explorer - whichever you
use.
- Type in the address www.malwarebytes.org and download
Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware for free.
- Run the Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (afterwards referred to as: MBAM) setup program that you have just
downloaded.
- Go with the default settings during the install. CRUCIAL: Make sure you tell the software to automatically
update itself (there’s a box you need to check during the install to make that happen). In addition, make sure
you tell MBAM to automatically launch itself once the install and update processes are complete.
- When MBAM loads, go to the Scanner screen, select “Perform Full Scan” and then click the “Scan”
button.
- When the scan is complete, press the Show Results button under the main “Scanner” tab.
- Make sure the checkboxes for all the detected infections (so you remove both Internet Security 2010 and all
related Trojans, as well as any other malware detected) are checked.
- When the removal process is complete, a log of the scan will be displayed in a Notepad window. You now have
successfully removed Internet Security 2010, all related Trojans and any other infections detected by
MBAM.
- Restart your computer
- Install AVG to make sure this doesn't happen again.
- Or CALL ME and I'll do all this for you, as well as scanning for other
viruses.
